Using firefox 3 means I have to upgrade to Windows XP, thereby giving another chunk of money to Microsoft, and giving an unknown number of unknown people, including the intellectual feudalism folks, access to my private information stores. 98SE may have flaws, but the ability to remove undesired or insecure portions is not one of them. Nor is free, in both senses, software availability, as long as "the newest ..." isn't your highest priority.

No thanks. Doesn't sound like free culture to me.

The only thing it could do better for me that would be worth doing is using less memory, or using it more cleanly, and A. that is a pretty low priority for Firefox developers, and B. switching to XP would likely render that issue irrelevant via the application of a large amount of money. As is, Firefox can easily fragment a gigabyte of memory to the point where graphics fail to be displayed and a reboot is necessary.

All it takes is opening five or six dozen tabs...

And then enabling Javascript...

Globally...
