Jordan's list

I grew up in the '80s; I learned to love rock in the '90s. When I find something I like, I tend to stick with it. Here are some bands and singers that were a part of my formative music listening years and are still producing music. Every one of them was originally on an RIAA label and have since split to do their own thing or join non-cartel labels.
-
Dishwalla, Dishwalla
(2005, Orphanage)
Why you might remember them: Couting Blue Cars, and if you've got a good memory, Charlie Brown's parents. -
Brian Vander Ark, Resurrection
(2004, Brash Music)
Formerly the lead singer of the Verve Pipe.
Why you might remember them: Freshman, Photograph, Cup of Tea. -
Collective Soul, Youth
(2004, El Music Group)
Why you might remember them: The list is too long. They've been pumping out CDs forever. -
Virgos, Path of Least Resistance
(2002, Devine Music -- now defunct)
Formerly Virgos Merlot.
Why you might remember them: OK, you may not, but I do. The band had a number of different names, but the music's always good. Band site -
Black Lab, See the Sun
(2005, blacklabworld.com)
Why you might remember them: She Loves Me

Better than Ezra, Before the Robots
(2005, Artemis Records)
Why you might remember them: Aww come on, do I really have to explain this one? You're gonna make me feel old.
-
Zac Maloy, Saturday is Gone
(2005, None)
Formerly the lead singer of the Nixons.
Why you might remember them: Sister, The Fall. Also check out Zac's first solo project, Life. -
Hootie and the Blowfish, Looking for Lucky
(2005, Vanguard Records)
Why you might remember them: Because you used to make fun of them for not being cool enough. Well, they're back at it, proving that either they finally spent all their money and are back for more, or maybe they actually care about the music.
-
Dog's Eye View, Gone Like Yesterday
(2005, a href="http://www.vanguardrecords.com/">Vanguard Records)
Why you might remember them: Small Wonders. Wow, I didn't even realize they were still around until I started researching this list. An early Christmas present for me... -
K's Choice, 10
(2004, a href="http://www.vanguardrecords.com/">Vanguard Records)
Why you might remember them: K's Choice had a number of amazing tracks, the most memorable one that received airplay was Not An Addict. While most of the original releases may have been RIAA-supporting, Vanguard's picked up this Best Of album, allowing you to get warm fuzzies from the music and your peace of mind.
other lists: Gavin, Karen, Dan, Eric, Jason
