Can someone else please fill in the rest of the agenda? -- Gavin 15:28, 2 Mar 2005 (EST)

I think there's simply too much on this agenda for a one hour call. Let's try to weed out the (most) time-sensitive stuff and try to tackle that. E.g., Blogshine is a must. -- Nick

Blogshine Sunday

What is the status?

  • Need a good logo w/ color scheme for site
  • Need design of site
  • Gavin needs help writing text and doing design.
  • Nick's pathetic attempt at a logo here

UAEM Conference in San Fran

Who's going, what they're doing

Signing on to Budapest Initiative, Geneva Declaration

Luke? Status?

What, if anything, are we doing for Grokster?

Candlelight Vigil

"A vigil for innovation" Is this a good idea? If so, how should we do it? Could be good camera fodder, other blogs and organizations should pick it up and do most of the work for us.

We could avoid a lot of the clueless e-mails and flames that we get (which we have to respond to) if we had a good FAQ on the website.

S 450, sponsored by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) and 5 co-sponsors. In Senate Committee on Rules and Administration.

In House, HR 939, sponsored by Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-Ohio). "Referred to the Committee on House Administration, and in addition to the Committee on the Judiciary, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned."

Voting Integrity and Verification Act

HR 704, sponsored by Rep. Jim Gibbons (R-NV) and Rep Shelley Berkley (D-NV). In House Committee on House Administration.

Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act

HR 550, sponsored by Rep. Rush Holt (D-N.J.) and 102 co-sponsors. In House Committee on House Administration.

Family Entertainment and Copyright Act

This dinosaur has been kicking around for a while. Can someone who understands government-ese interpret where this bill is actually at?

Local Community Radio Act

S 312, sponsored by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and 2 co-sponsors. In Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.

The Copyfight

  • - documentary film, CC licensed, to be distributed on BitTorrent
  • Ways we can help
    • Press: Yaz could guest-blog some entries for us about the film. We could blog about it or mention it on Announce.
      • Additionally, the copyright situation in Canada has gone somewhat unnoticed there -- we could help raise the bar with guest entries from Yaz.
    • Seeding: This will need people to download it and offer it on BT when it's released. We could try to coordinate people offering it for upload.
    • Transcription / translation: We could try to get our students involved in transcribing and translating the film and other footage shot.

Core Team

  • Should we clean up the Core Team of people no longer involved? How do we do that?

Conference call day/time

  • Should we (briefly) discuss if we should change the day and/or time of the conference calls?

Blogshine Sunday

Status update

  • Wordpress is installed; still in tinkering stage
  • Gavin has written some text, but we need more before it can go public
  • Deadline to finish: Tuesday!
  • Gavin and co will continue to work on text
  • Logo feedback: Nick will try to refine it; worst case scenario the logo listed on the agenda will be used.
  • Press releases: Gavin is working on them, which will go out Wed. or Thurs. Will also be blogged and sent out on the Announce list.

UAEM Conference in San Fran

  • Nelson will be going (along with Eldo?)
  • Will try to set up a meeting with CC and possibly EFF
  • It would be a good idea to blog this either before or after the conference.

Grokster Vigil

  • Blog it and try to encourage people to do it at local chapters
  • If we want to get anything out about this, we need to get it to Gavin so he can include it in the Announce e-mail.
  • Scheduled for the night of March 28.

The Copyfight

  • There'll be a guest blog post about this
  • To be released on BT April 3
  • Everyone should leave their BT windows open after they download the documentary!
  • Anyone interested in transcribing the movie?
    • Perhaps a Wiki would be the best option for this
  • Could be a great thing for local groups to screen.
  • Fred worked with a company called TV Eyes that makes software that could help with this; he'll contact them.

Update from NYU

  • Fred dropped in to give us an update
  • Going through NYU new club program
  • Film screening of public domain works (Sex Madness)
  • Trying to set up a lecture for April.

  • Draft on the wiki, then put it up on the main site and make it pretty.
  • Everyone can help pitch in. Anytime you find yourself answering one of these questions, make sure to post a copy to the wiki.
